Information reaching faceofMalawi indicates that five inmates from Mulanje prison have escaped from jail.
Prison officials from Mulanje Prison and Mulanje Police Spokesperson James Kadazela have confirmed of the development in an interview with the press but denied to disclose the details from of the inmates, saying doing so will jeopardize their searching effort.
According to Kadazela, the inmates escaped from jail at Mulanje District Hospital where they had been receiving TB treatment.
Kadazela said the inmates were admitted at the hospital two weeks after falling ill while in prison.
On his part, one of the officials at Mulanje Hospital who opted for anonymity blamed the Prison Officials for not taking good care of the inmates.
The official said the inmates who are referred to Mulanje Hospital most of the times are not given food and other necessities.
Meanwhile Police have launched manhunt for the five inmates.
