The Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Monday committed to the High court a case in which former budget Director Paul Mphwiyo is being accused of taking part in the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate.
Mphwiyo and three other suspects namely Auzius Kazombo Mwale, Clemence Mmadzi and Roosevelt Ndovi were arrested on Saturday by Fiscal Police in the capital Lilongwe and they have since been charged with seven counts.
According to the charge sheet seen by FaceofMalawi, the four are being accused of defrauding about K2.4 billion in 2013 through various businesspersons without rendering services to government.
Senior resident magistrate Chisomo Msokera committed the matter to the High Court and remanded Mphwiyo and his co-accused to Maula prison in Zomba.
The four are expected to appear in court on Wednesday for bail application.
This is the second time for Mphwiyo, who’s shooting on September 13, 2013 led to the massive revelations of the looting of public funds at Capitol Hill to be arrested.
