Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila on Wednesday turn Parliament to a battle field when she described President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s 24 minute speech as a ‘tweet’.
A Tweet is a short massage posted on twitter which has a restriction of 140 characters and nothing more.
Concurring with opposition People’s Party (PP) leader in Parliament Uladi Mussa who described Mutharika speech as visionless, Kabwila said the speech was empty and lacked scope.
“It was a shockingly short and empty speech that failed to satisfy Malawians. What they heard was what can be described as a Twitter message and at worst maybe a WhatsApp message not a State of the Nation Address,” she said.
The speech did not go down well with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) MPs who reacted badly by booing her.
Reacting Kabwila’s remarks, leader of the House Francis Kasaila warned Kabwila that her remarks were against Standing Order 97 and 98.
Meanwhile members of Parliament continue adding their voice on Mutharika’s national address delivered on Friday last week.
