Angry mob on Tuesday, November 10 2015 took the law into their own hands by beating to death three members of unknown gang of criminals in the commercial capital Blantyre.
Police in Blantyre have confirmed of the development in a statement made available to FaceofMalawi.
According to the statement, on the wee hours of Tuesday members of the gang reached Amalume Bar in Chigumula, Blantyre, where they tied all the guards before breaking into the bar.
“The armed criminals went away with an amplifier, DVD player, assorted bottled beer and money amounting to K37, 000. 00,” reads the statement.
It is alleged that on their way back to Namame in Manje-Soche, the gang met people who became suspicious upon seeing the items which gang members were carrying.
“The people then grouped and went after the gang. Three of the gang members were caught and without delay two were beaten to death on the spot. The other one who was rescued by police died en route as he was being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital,” adds the report.
The statement further says that one of the suspects escaped from the angry mob and sought refuge at nearby houses where he was arrested and handed over to Limbe Police Station.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile the bodies of the three are currently being kept at QECH waiting for identification by their relatives.
