A 43-year-old man is in Police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly defiling a 14 year-old girl (name withheld).
Police officials confirmed of the development in a statement made available to FaceofMalawi and identified the suspect as Reason Harlord.
According to the statement, the victim met her fate at Dzenza Forest while on her way back from school at Kalambo Primary School.
After defiling the girl, the suspect warned the girl not to reveal the ordeal and he gave her MK500. This was not the case as the victim did not keep the matter a secret.
The matter was reported to police who later arrested the suspect.
Medical examination revealed that the girl was really defiled.
The suspect will soon appear before court to answer a charge of Defilement.
Harlord hails from Mbaluku village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district.
