As public hospitals in the country continue to experience numerous challenges due to low funding, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the health sector will hold peaceful demonstrations in the capital Lilongwe on Friday to express their anger.
This has been disclosed in a Press Statement jointly signed by Malawi Network of Religious Leaders living with or personally affected by HIV AIDS (MANERELA+), Centre for Development (CEDEP) in partnership with National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NOMN) and Human Resources for Health Coalition.
“This peaceful march will be held to symbolize unity in our quest to press government to improve service delivery in the health sector.
“We want government to put in place sustainable action plans to end the challenges such as drug shortage, insufficient food to patients and the inaccessibility of ambulances the public health system is currently facing,” reads in part the statement.
According to the statement, the petition will be presented through the chairperson of Parliamentary Committee on Health Juliana Lunguzi.
Earlier this week, CSOs in Rumphi also held demonstrations over food shortage that has hit Rumphi District Hospital.
According to media reports, patients receive one meal per day from the usual three meals per day.
Meanwhile Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) followers led by Minister of Information and Civic Education Jappie Mhango retaliated by donating 100 bags of Maize.
