Is this the sauciest charity calendar yet? University rowing team strip off for naked shoot – even though last year’s effort was branded ‘pornographic’

  • Determined to beat last year’s fundraising drive, the University of Warwick rowers stripped off for a nude calendar
  • Their effort last year raised £12,000 for charity but was deemed ‘pornographic’ and removed from Facebook
  • Organiser Amy, 20, said they had ordered 2,500 calendars – 500 more than last year – as well as 120 posters
  • She added: ‘It was pretty awkward when you first strip down, I’ve never done it before and it was really daunting’

A female university rowing club have stripped off their lycra and braved the cold for a nude calendar they hope will generate more than the £12,000 last year’s photo shoot raised.

The University of Warwick 1st VIII squad caused controversy last year when their first nude shoot was branded ‘pornographic’ and removed by Facebook.

But after the students got their ‘Warwick Rowing’s Women’s Naked Calendar’ page reinstated, they sold every calendar and made £12,000 for charity.

Determined to top last year’s fundraising drive, this year the crew have stripped off again for their most daring photo-shoot yet.

The 11 students – aged between 18 and 21 – brave freezing conditions while carrying boats and paddling down the River Avon.

Amy, 20, a third year history and politics student who organised this year’s shoot, said: ‘Last year we made £12,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which was amazing, but this year we want to beat that.

‘We’ve ordered 2,500 calendars, which is 500 more than last year, as well as 120 posters so we should definitely beat last year.

‘We made sure all the girls were comfortable with the shoot, but the best ones were the group ones. We just ended up giggling together and you can see that in the photos because they’re more natural.

‘It was pretty awkward when you first strip down, I’ve never done it before and it was really daunting.

‘But when all the girls are together it makes such a difference. The one where we went on the water though, that was really quite chilly.

‘It was quite windy too, so we kept crashing into the bank and having to reset. We were stuck on the river naked for ages, it was so funny.

‘It’s always so nice to do the calendar at the end of a long season. We train twice a day, six days a week so it’s great to have something to look forward to at the end.’
