Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) students have to dig deeper into their pocket in the 2016 semester scheduled to start in January following the decision by Management to hike the tuition fees.

According to leaked information that FaceofMalawi have in possession indicates that, Certificate students will now be paying MK230, 000 per semester from MK210,000 while Diploma students will be paying MK250, 000 from MK230, 000.

The statement says, the fee has been adjusted to help the institution continue offering quality education to its students.

Meanwhile the leaked documents have attracted criticisms from students and some even took the issue to the social media (Facebook) to express their anger.

One of MIJ Students Union representative identified as Prince Elvin Margombo said it is regrettable that the management has hiked the fees despite numerous challenges that the Institution is failing to address.

“Colleagues we have noted with regrets that there is an increment in our fees per semester, this follows another increment in january this year, my biggest worry is the treatment that we are given as students.

“To some extent I think we are treated like a bunch of people who can’t stand against decisions made in the name of raising the standard at the school,” said Margombo.

Margombo said time has come for the students to remain united fight against unnecessary fees hike at the institution.
