Masautso Jailosi (adult) was on Saturday, 12th December 2015, found dead in a deep sand mine near Lilongwe river bank.

Lilongwe Police Station Spokesperson Inspector Kingsley Dandaula told the Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the deceased and his friend had gone for sand mining along the Lilongwe river bank when the incidence happened.

“While sand mining, the deceased friend went to draw water from the river leaving him sand mining alone in a deep sand mine at Area 36 near Lilongwe river bank. When the friend returned he found the mine had sunk and the deceased was nowhere to be seen.

“The friend went and told members of the general public who rushed to the scene and dug the mine only to find Jailosi dead in the deep sand mine,” said Dandaula.

The deceased body was taken to the Kamuzu Central Hospital where postmortem conducted revealed that death was due to suffocation.
