The Malawi Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a fellow officer for allegedly having a hand in the gruesome murder of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju.
Confirming the development in an interview with the press, National Police Spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa refused to disclose the particulars of the said police officer.
“What I can reveal at the moment is that a police officer is indeed in police custody but for us, we are still investigating the matter. I will not provide any names or details until the time we are satisfied with the investigation,” said Gondwa.
According to information at hand, the officer was working as Criminal Investigator in the Malawi Police Service department and is currently being remanded at Maula Prison.
Unconfirmed reports indicates that the arrested Police officer is Christopher Naphiyo who was working as criminal investigator at police headquarters in Lilongwe.
The arrest has increased the number of suspects to two.
Njauju’s body was found abandoned in Lilongwe around July 5 close to Presidential Villa riddled with gun bullets while his official vehicle was set on fire and abandoned within the city.
