ELECTRICITY TARIFFS TO GO UP EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1

As the country continues to experience intermittent power outages, Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Board has resolved that ESCOM electricity tariffs be increased effective January 1, 2016.

MERA Board Chairperson Dingiswayo Jere has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to FaceofMalawi.

According Jare, the tariffs will go up from an average of MK40.69/kWh to MK53.69/kWh (or$0.08 per KWh).

He said the decision to increase the Electricity tariffs was made by the board on December 2, 2015.
