Opposition People’s Party (PP) Spokesperson Ken Msonda has described the sentiments made by Malawi Law Society (MLS) regarding the controversial homosexual act in the country as unfortunate, saying it’s sad that the institution is diverting from its role to protect and interpret laws for personal gains.
MLS issued a statement on Monday trashing the call made by Msonda through his official Facebook page, saying those people practicing of homosexuality in the country are worse than dogs and need to be killed.
The sentiments did not please MLS and the grouping condemned the statement, saying the remarks were “contemptible, irresponsible and bordering on hate speech.”
“Calling on members of the LGBTI community to be killed is hate speech and is not protected by the Constitution. It is in fact criminal,” reads in part the statement.
MLS said the matter has been referred to Malawi Human Rights Commission and Police for probing.
Reacting to the claims, Msonda said his remarks was simply in support of what a gay who was interviewed on times tv and Malawi news said: ” if government (Malawians) don’t want us homosexuals let them KILL us”.
Msonda said “MALAWIANS DON’T WANT HOMOSEXUALS SO THEY BETTER BE KILLED AS PER THEIR REQUEST!.
He said he stands by his earlier remarks and he owes no any apology to anyone in the country.
“I am disheartened, surprised and shocked that according to MLS undemocratic line of thinking & interpretation of the law, what this gay said on times tv and Malawi news it is “human rights”; whilst by supporting what this gay said mine is “hate speech”.
“I will meet MLS in court,” said Msonda
Msonda said even in the United States of American where homosexual is legalized there is a law that stops gays or lesbians to donate blood.
“The Holy Bible and Holy Koran have laws against incest, beastiality, cannibalism and homosexuality which are also crimes in our secular law.
“Yes our learned MLS members might have gone to college to study law (I envy them) but education, wisdom, knowledge and the fear of God is hate supposed to compliment each other,” he said.
In December last year, Minister of Justice Samuel Tembenu revealed that Malawi has imposed a moratorium on anti-homosexual laws pending a decision on whether to repeal the legislation.
Tembenu said a review of all colonial-area sodomy laws would be launched in consultation with the people of Malawi, and ordered the release of two men who were arrested charged with having sex against the order of nature; in Lilongwe.
