A Malawian woman is on Friday January 8, 2016 expected to appear in court in Ghana for allegedly being caught importing heroin into that country.

The Malawian woman identified as Grace Sauti-Phiri was arrested on December 21, 2015 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Ghana.

Phiri who boarded Ethiopian Airlines Flight Number ET921 from Malawi was caught with the luggage with log number ET331006 which contained quantities of white powdery substance which were field-tested and proved to be heroin, leading to her arrest.

During her court appearance, Phiri claimed ownership of the bag as well as the substance, insisting that she was contracted by one Samuel Onyeba Imo, a Nigerian, for $1,300 (about K850,000.00).

She told the court that she was to deliver the said bag to one Val, another Nigerian residing in Ghana.

Phiri was charged with importation of narcotic drug without licence from the Ministry of Health and possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority but she did not take a plea in a court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh.

The case was adjourned to tomorrow Friday January 8, 2015 and she was being remanded at the Nsawam Prison.
