The High Court in Mzuzu has upheld the appointment of Fiona Kalemba by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as new Clerk of Parliament (CoP), saying Mutharika did not error in the appointment.

High Court Judge Dingiswayo Madise delivered the ruling today when the case resumed for hearing.

Four Members of Parliament led by Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua challenged Kalemba’s appointment after it was revealed that she was not the right person for the position as she came third in the interview conducted by Parliamentary Service Commission whose chair is the Speaker Richard Msowoya.

According to information at hand, Kalemba got 80 percent while Justice Charles Mkandawire came first with 89 percent scores.

Delivering his ruling on Tuesday, Justice Madise said he has weighed the arguments from both the state and the complainants and there is no any evidence that the President erred in the appointment of Kalemba.

The development means that Kalemba is now new Clerk of Parliament.
