Newly elected interim opposition People’s Party (PP) President Uladi Mussa has accused former Malawi Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali of being against his appointment.

The accusation follows and injunction obtained by five PP officials in Mzuzu High Court led by Salim Bagus restraining Mussa and Kamlepo Kalua from taking up their new roles in the Party.

The officials are accusing former President Dr. Joyce Banda who is currently in self-imposed exile of flouting the procedures in appointing the two.

Speaking in an interview with one of the local radio station in the country, Mussa said the five officials have been used by Kachali.

“He (Kachali) is power hungry, selfish and greedy. He wants to be president of the party but he will not get it. This is the time for Uladi, he is just wasting his time, he must stop this nonsense,” said Mussa.

Reacting to the claims, Kachali denied the accusation saying is not having a hand in the injunction obtained by five PP officials.

Kachali said what he want is the party to be strong.

Kachali resigned from PP in the run up to the elections when Banda opted for the youthful Sosten Gwengwe as running mate leaving out Kachali who was vice president of the Republic.
