Sacrificial prayers offered to Mbona aimed at appeasing the ancestral spirits for good rains ended prematurely in Chikwawa on Sunday as swarm of bees attacked worshipers, injuring seven people in the process.

The worshipers congregated at Matenga-mbili Forest in the area of Chief Ngabu in Chikhwawa, but the rite ended unceremoniously after a swarm of bees attacked them.

Group village Matenga-mbili and Senior Chief Ngabu confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying seven people were seriously injured and rushed to Ngabu Rural Hospital where they were admitted.

The chiefs said they organized the rite after a thorough reflection of the past where sacrifices were made to ask for forgiveness and mercy when drought persist as is the case with now.
