President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has come out of his cocoon and defended his fall at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe on Saturday while on tree planting exercise, saying falling down is not a crime.
Mutharika’s reaction is found on Facebook under the username His Excellency The Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika which is believed to be his.
“Falling down is not a crime. Anyone can fall down. Its just a matter of slipperly place and how you have walked.
“I have fallen down so many times when i was a child. You should know that when a person is growing old, is like a small child who can easily fall down. How many times have you fallen down? So many times. Do not waste your time talking about somebody’s fall because tomorrow its you. Check what has made you to fall down and not where you have fallen down,” reads the statement in part.
But commenters on the post have questioned the Facebook page if it’s really for President Mutharika.
“The whole president writing to explain how and why he fell down? If you have time to respond to such trivial issues, why not tell Malawians why you continue to barry your head in the sand by denying the fact that there is hunger in this country. Why don’t you take the time and address Malawians why we do not have maize at ADMARC depots and medicine in our hospital?
“If you have time Mr president to explain to Malawians everything bothering you, why don’t you tell us why you are sitting on the forensic audit for the looted MK577, billion by former DPP government. And finally sir if you have enought courage to face the truth why not respond to the allegations that your party paid Ligomeka to tamper with the computer system at MEC? I am sure you have the time to either refute of delete these comments,” wrote Mercy Ngwenyama.
The other commentator identified as Yammie Mpate said: “Are you sure this is the official page of the president? cuz the post is useless to be posted by a professor….. anyway we all fall its no big deal talk about serious issues happening out there.”
The picture showing Mutharika falling published on the social media has attracted mixed reaction with experts question Mutharika’s health.
In his reaction, Presidential Press Officer Gerald Viola urged Malawians not to be under panic, saying the President is doing well.
Meanwhile debate of Mutharika’s fall continues to attract mixed reaction on the social media.
