Cashgate convict Oswald Lutepo this morning appeared in court to testify in the shooting case of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo at the High Court in the Capital Lilongwe.

Mphwiyo’s shooting on September 13, 2013 at his residence in Lilongwe led to the revelations of massive looting of public funds at Capitol Hill during the reign of former President Dr. Joyce Banda and People’s Party (PP) founder.

In his testimony when he appeared in court today, Lutepo accused former Deputy Inspector General of Police Nelson Bophani of forcing him to implicate Ralph Kasambara in the shooting Mphwiyo because Kasambara was doing the same to him.

He also said Manondo was closer to Kasambara than Mphwiyo. “He said he would die for him (Kasambara)”. I was told by ex Police IG Bophani to implicate Kasambara to protect Mphwiyo (in cashgate).

Lutepo also told the court that former President Dr. Joyce Banda gave him money amounting to MK10 million to former Malawi Congress party (MCP) president John Tembo’s campaign at 2013 MCP convention.

Kasambara and his two co-accused (Macdonald Kumwembe and Pika Manondo) are being accused of attempting to kill Mphwiyo
.
Meanwhile the case continues this afternoon where former PP Vice President for South Brown Mpinganjira is also expected to testify in the case.
