Abduction of a nine year old girl with albinism was foiled as police in Machinga arrested a 24 year old man who offered half a million kwacha to the girl’s brother to facilitate the move.
Police Public Relations Officer in Machinga, Constable, Davie Sulumba confirmed the arrest of Mandela Paipi of Nachuma village, Traditional Authority Nkoola in the district.
The publicist said the suspect will answer a charge of ‘conduct likely to cause breach of peace’ in the court of law soon.
He said Paipi approached the nine year old girl’s brother to facilitate the abduction by offering to share with him K500,000.
The brother tipped his mother of the abduction plot and the mother tipped the members of community policing who in turn apprehended Paipi and handed him to Ntaja police.
In the meantime the police in Machinga have commended members of the community in the district for continuing tipping the police on cases of abduction of people living with albinism.
The recent case of abduction of people with albinism was that of a boy from Dedza whose father connived with men in Machinga to cross over into Mozambique through a border at Nyambi in the district.
The police arrested the boy’s father and the case is still in the high court at Zomba.mana
