President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Saturday, January 30, 2016 attend the Episcopal Ordination of the Very Reverend Father George Tambala as Bishop of Zomba Diocese.
This has been disclosed in a Press Statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) released on Thursday signed by Presidential Press Officer Gerald Viola.
The function will be held at Zomba Catholic Secondary School Ground and President Mutharika is expected to arrive at the venue at 09:30 AM.
Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic appointed Father Tambala in October last to replace Bishop Thomas Msusa who was appointed to head Blantyre Archdiocese.
All this while Zomba diocese was under Bishop Thomas Msusa since Tambala was yet to be installed as Bishop.
The bishop-designate Tambala belongs to the Order of the Carmelite Discalced (OCD) and becomes the first priest from that Order in the country to be promoted to the high office of a bishop.
