Association of Secular Humanism Executive Director George Thindwa has hailed government for timely intervention in the gruesome murder of four elderly people in Neno suspected of witching a 17 year old girl through lightning.

Thindwa’s remarks follow the arrests of 10 people on Thursday suspected of being behind the murder of four elderly people namely Eliza Kanjete, 86, Ayelinifa Kanjete, 76, Byson Kanjete, 73 and Idesi Kanjete 69.

The ten who are all relatives of the four deceased people are; Staford Chifundo, aged 36, Amosi Sida, 32, Samuel Kaudzu, 20, John Harry, 21, Lex Mayenda, 19, Manford Dyson, 15, Patrick Kanjete, 14, Lyton Silence, 15, Ben Saukila, 14 and Eliya Mapeto aged 13.

Speaking in an interview with FaceofMalawi, Thindwa said he is over whelmed with the action taken by government on the matter, saying the culprits should face the law because the constitution of Malawi does not allow any body to kill someone.

Thindwa hinted that witchcraft does not exist and not one should be accused of that.

Meanwhile the said ten suspects will appear in court to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
