A 34-year-old man is in police custody in Nkhotakota for allegedly being found in possession of Indian hemp (Chamba).

Police in Nkhotakota have confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Holis Nkhoma who was arrested on Monday February 8, 2016 at Kaombe road block.

According to the police, the suspect was traveling in an ARKAY Plastics Limited Motor vehicle, registration number KK 5914 Benz Van which was coming from Dwangwa side heading to Salima direction.

“Upon arrival at kaombe road block, the vehicle was searched thoroughly by Sgt Mweiwa and the officer found cannabis sativa in a big carton sealed with dried fish (utaka) at the top,” reads the statement in part.

The suspect was asked to produce a license but he failed, therefore he was arrested for the offence of being found in possession of Indian hemp without licence.

Holis Nkhoma hails from Hendre village, Traditional Authority Lundu in Blantyre.
