Magistrate’s Court in Dowa has sentenced a 22-year-old man to two years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for assaulting his wife with a panga knife.

According to Kanengo Police spokesperson, Sub Inspector Esther Mkwanda, the man identified as Blessings Tembo stabbed his wife Alinafe Yokoniya (19) after she had refused to have sexual intercourse with him saying she was tired with the day’s hard work.

The wife’s excuse is said to have displeased the husband who took a knife and stabbed her in the head.

The incident happened on 15th January, 2016, according to Mkwanda.

“Tembo fled after injuring his wife while the wife was taken to Kamuzu Central hospital where she received treatment untill the 27th of January,” she said.

Tembo hails from Chimwanya Village, T/A Chitukula in Lilongwe while his wife comes from Mkalambo Village, T/A Chimutu in the same district.
