Angry villagers in Dedza on Tuesday took the law into their own hands by torching to death a suspected thief.
Dedza Deputy Police Spokesperson Cassim Manda confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the deceased as Twaya Charles from Mapemba village Traditional Authority Tambala in the district.
It is said that the deceased on Tuesday February 9, 2016 invaded the house of Danford Lefutala where he stole a home theater, four zitenje clothes and money amounting to MK40, 000 while the owner was fast asleep.
“Few hours later, Lefutala walk up and realized that some of his properties were missing and he suspected that Charles took it,” said Manda.
Manda said the same night Lefutala went to the house of the suspect where he found all his items.
Instead of taking the suspect to police, Lefutala mobilized some of the villagers and attacked Charles by setting him on fire using a petrol bomb.
Meanwhile no one has been arrested in connection to the incident.
