As hunger situation in the country is getting worse day by day, information reaching faceofMalawi indicates that two Children in Dedza have died after eating poisonous cassava due to lack of maize.
Mtakataka police station officer in charge Goodwin Sambo confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the privately owned radio on Monday.
Sambo identified the deceased children as Adidi Tembo and Pemphero from Nkumbi village in the district.
According to Sambo, the incident happened when the parents of the Children were away in search for food due to the growing hunger.
“Since the children were hungry and their parents left nothing for them, the three children hastily ate the cassava,” he said.
Sambo also disclosed that the third child is currently admitted at Mua mission hospital.
Despite the scarcity of Maize in ADMARC deports, government still maintains that it has enough maize stock to feed the hunger stricken families.
