Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, George Chaponda has come out of his cocoon to clear the miss surrounding the firing of daughter of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila, saying she was not contracted to the Ministry.
Chaponda’s statement comes following the termination of Internship of Kabwila’s daughter Louisa on March 2, 2016 citing limited office space.
But Kabwila branded the termination which came barely a month after the hiring of her daughter as political witch-hunt by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Commenting on the issue on Tuesday in Parliament, Chaponda said Kabwila’s daughter was an intern and not an employee of government.
“She was an intern and you all know that all interns are not civil servants with jobs anywhere in government,” said Chaponda, the country’s top trained lawyer.
He added: “You all know the process of recruiting a civil servant.”
The abrupt termination of Internship of Kabwila’s daughter by government has received heavy criticism from various commentators in the country with others advising the government to tread carefully on the matter.
