Parliamentary deliberations in the August House this morning came to a standstill for close to five minutes due to commotion that erupted in the house after ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) MP attacked the religion (Prophet Bushiri’s Church) Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua.

It all started when Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua alleged that DPP MPs have been promised huge sums of money for campaign once the allocation to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) is passed.

Standing on point of order, Leader of government in the August House Francis Kasaila asked the Deputy Speaker to ask Kalua to bring evidence for his claim.

Kasaila went further attacking Kalua’s religion, saying as Church faithful who goes to Bushiri’s church must be honest in his statement.

The remarks by Kalua did not please the opposition benches pressing the Deputy Speaker to order the Minister to withdraw his statement.

Kalua who looked so angry took a swipe at Kasaila and the DPP led government that he can never be intimidated by anyone even if it means going to war with him.

He said all the DPP MPs were not there when he was fighting for the country’s freedom.

Making his ruling on the matter, Mcheka Chilenje pleaded with Kalua not to be too emotional, saying that is not good for his health.

Chilenje further went ahead in pleading with the whole house to stop making provocative statements in the house.

The situation normalized and debate on the mid-year budget review resumed.
