President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Saturday went volatile attacking Malawi Newspaper articles describing it as ‘garbage’.
Mutharika said when he was laying a foundation stone Dae Yang Lukes teaching university hospital in the capital Lilongwe.
In his speech, Mutharika categorically pointed out Newspaper columnist as the worst, saying instead of wring developmental issues they deliberately attack his administrations.
“For once, let me agree with Joyce Banda when she said she no longer read Malawi newspapers. I too stopped reading Malawi newspapers from January,” said Mutharika while describing the articles contained in the papers as ‘garbage’.
Mutharika also said he stopped reading articles published on social media last year.
Reacting to Mutharika’s statement, MISA-Malawi President Thom Khanje has described the statement as worrisome and a threat to media freedom.
Khanje further said Mutharika’s statement clearly shows that he will soon not be listening to his critics.
