A forty five year old man identified as Yohane Gomani is currently on the run as the Police in Mangochi have launched a hunt for him on suspicion that he killed his wife, Malawi News Agency has learnt.

Confirming the incident, Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Amina Daudi said the incident took place on the March 13, 2016 at a maize garden at Chiponda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Namavi in the district.

“The fact of the matter is that the suspect and his wife identified as Annie Juma were on separation. The husband left his wife at Chiponda Village and went to Makacha Village together with his 18 year old son,” Daudi said.

“Now on March 12, 2016 the suspect told his son that he would kill his wife for what she had done without shading more light.

“On the same day, at noon the suspect left the house whilst carrying a knife and a stick without disclosing his destination, then the son phoned his mother of his father’s intention which forced the mother to sleep at her neighbours’ house,” she added.

Daudi said the following day the woman went to her house to open chicken pen where she met her husband on the way who ambushed her in a maize garden and was hit in the head with an axe handle before slicing her in the head with a panga knife.

The deputy police publicist further said the woman sustained a deep cut in the head, bleeding profusely in the process. According to Daudi, the woman died on the spot, adding that postmortem conducted at Namalaka Health Centre established that death was due to severe loss of blood.
