President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s recent remarks that he will not allow some of his powers trimmed continues to attract mixed reaction and the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), a religious body has added his voice on the matter.

Speaking in an interview with one of the privately owned radio, PAC Chairperson Father Peter Mulomole said Mutharika’s statement contradicts his Party Manifesto and Public Sector Reform being championed by his Vice Dr. Saulos Chilima.

“I take it as a podium talk. My understanding is that this government is doing all it can to reduce presidential powers. The vice president the Right Honourable Saulos Chilima is the champion of public reforms sector which has the reduction of presidential powers as one of its key agendas,” said Mlomole.

Mulomole further urged Mutharika to control his talking when he is on the podium.

“Am sure this was mere podium talk, he was just politicking he did not mean it,” he said.

Mulomole also disclosed that PAC will be meeting President Mutharika on the matter this month end.
