The Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP)Livingstonia Synod has asked the Police to speed up investigations in the fracas that happened on Sunday in Mzuzu where four Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters were seriously injured.
MCP together with opposition People’s Party (PP) and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) held a joint rally at Chibavi ground in Mzuzu but the rally was marred by violence as thugs armed with Pangas invaded the venue.
The thugs stripped naked PP supporters and in the process injured MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s personal aide.
The violence received countrywide condemnation with others describing it as a threat to democracy in Malawi.
On its part, Livingstonia Synod has asked the Police to hasten the investigations on the matter and bring perpetrators to book.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola said investigations are underway.
Police are yet to make any arrest on the matter.
Meanwhile MCP has attributed the Mzuzu violence to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
