Lecturers from Malawi Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi have vowed to continue with the strike until their demands are met by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Lecturers started the strike on Monday last week demanding a 30 per cent salary hike to meet the high cost of living in the country but UNIMA council trashed the call, saying its non-starter.

In the statement, UNIMA council threatened to deal with lecturers who will continue to strike by March 31 2016.

But in a statement seen by FaceofMalawi, lecturers have said they are not shaken with the threat issued by UNIMA council, saying the strike will go on until their demands are met.

On his part, President for the Polytechnic Students Union (PSU) Frank Msiska has asked the authorities to resolve the matter quickly as it is making them spend money without learning.

Meanwhile government is yet to intervene on the matter as requested by some students.
