President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has fired his Press Secretary Gerald Viola from State House without giving any reason.

Viola has confirmed the development in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, saying he has been redeployed to Ministry of Information, Tourism and Civic Education to work as Technical Advisor.

According to the statement, Viola will replace former Presidential Press Officer Fredrick Ndala who has been appointed Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

“I promise to dedicate my life for the needful job as appointed. Again, thank You Your Excellency. I know some few Malawians will take it negatively, but that’s Malawi Your Excellency and provided we know the truth. It is a huge responsibility but God will guide and help me fulfill His Words in the quest for Integrity, hard work and patriotism,” wrote Viola.

Viola was appointed Presidential Press Secretary after the firing of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) announcer Timpunza Mwansambo for allegedly drawing double salaries.

All this while Viola was not relating well with President Mutharika following reports that he told Times Newspaper that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in planning to purchase another Presidential Jet.

But Minister of Information trashed Viola’s report, saying Mutharika has no such plans.

Meanwhile Mutharika is yet to identify Viola’s replacement.
