Malawi’s deputy ambassador to Ethiopia Doreen Kapanga (former police deputy chief) and Fletcher Chowe the first secretary responsible for administration have been suspended and recalled for allegedly defrauding government money amounting to MK20 million.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation George Chaponda has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
Chaponda said the suspension has been done as one way of showing seriousness on issues to do with looting out corruption.
According to Chaponda, the two were writing cheques in their names for themselves and he personally caught them in the act.
Chaponda vowed to deal with anyone found in the act.
The Minister traveled to Ethiopia on his first trip as Chairperson of Ministerial Panel of African Union.
