President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has pardoned 207 prisoners as part of Easter Celebrations.
This has been disclosed in a press statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security released to the media on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the pardoned prisoners are those who have served at least half of their prison sentences, with good behavior and were not convicted of serious offences.
“The Pardon of the 207 prisoners is a symbol of forgiveness during this Year’s Easter Celebrations,” reads in part the statement.
This is not the first time Mutharika has pardoned prisoners in the country, he did the same during Festive season last year.
