The government of Malawi has trashed social media reports indicating that veteran Politician Gwanda Chakuamba is dead, saying the reports are untrue.

On Thursday, the social media was awashed with reports that Chakuamba has died in a certain hospital in India.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporations Francis Kasaila brushed the assertions, Chikuamba is not dead.

While admitting that Chakuamba is in India where he is receiving medical treatment, Kasaila said he is being treated as an outpatient.

Chakuamba announced his come back to frontline politics earlier this month during a rally held by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) at Nchalo ground in Nsanje where President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was guest of hounor.

In his speech, Chakuamba argued people in the district to support and vote for President Mutharika in the forthcoming elections.

Chakuamba, 81 said he is remaining with few days on earth and within the few days he wants to support the DPP under Mutharika.
