President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Dr. George Chaponda, MP. as Leader of the House in Parliament effective 19th May 2016.
Chopanda replaces Francis Kasaila who is now heading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international corporation.
“The appointment has been necessitated by the recent appointment of Hon. Kasaila, as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation. It is necessary to allow him to effectively attend to Malawi’s international affairs which often demand a lot of travelling out of the country. Therefore, it became necessary to allow someone to take over the position of Leader of the House so that both positions are given the due attention they deserve,” reads the statement signed by Mgeme Kalilani.
Kalilani further said: “President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika would also like to sincerely thank Honourable Francis Kasaila for performing exceptionally well as Leader of the House during his term.”
Meanwhile Mutharika is expected to open budgetary meeting tomorrow Friday in Lilongwe.
