Opposition People’s Party (PP) acting President Uladi Mussa has demanded justice on those who disrupted Malawi Congress Party (MCP) rally in Mzuzu, where some people got injured.
Mussa said this on Monday when he was responding to the State of the Nation Address President Peter Mutharika presented to parliament while opening the budget meeting last Friday.
He said it is sad that government is failing to act on the issue, saying what happened in Mzuzu during a MCP rally is a threat to democracy.
Turning to the economy, Mussa expressed doubt over government’s projections that the economy will register a real GDP growth rate of 5.1 percent in 2016, and 7.0 percent in 2017.
He said there are no strategies at the moment that would result to such growth.
The PP leader also questioned Mutharika’s rationale on his request for Malawians to persevere, saying, the many advisors he has are milking government coffers, and are no indication that government is concerned with the plight of Malawians.
On health, Mussa wondered why it is taking long for the Cancer Centre to be construed. He also questioned government’s priorities by failing to recruit the health personnel it trains, who are trekking to other countries to look for employment.
Mussa also spoke about the education sector, which he said is facing many challenges and is performing poorly despite getting a lion’s share in the budget.
