The court in Lilongwe has released on bail former deputy ambassador to Ethiopia Doreen Kapanga for allegedly being involved in the plunder of resources at the embassy.

She was arrested this week after an audit report.

Kapanga is alleged to have stolen K300 million within a period of 12 months in collaboration with other members of staff including those from the accounts department.

Former deputy Ambassador together with her colleague were asked to their travel documents, deposit K1 million each with the court and should not leave Lilongwe without the consent of the court.

Kapanga has been in police custody for two days.
