Cashgate convict Oswald Lutepo and his wife Gertrude has dragged to court Sunday Times, a subsidiary of Times Media Group for defamation and he is demanding MK1 billion.

Sunday Times of June 5 reported that Lutepo was allowed to have sex sessions with a woman on May 31 at Chichiri Prison.

The Paper said, the whole move was facilitated by a prison warder who is currently on investigation.

But Lutepo who is serving 11 jail sentence for allegedly plundering public money amounting to Mk K4.2 billion, denied the claims, saying the story is untrue.

Lutepo through his lawyers Joseph Kamkwasi has since written Times Media Group demanding MK1 billion damages for libel.

“We do not believe that prisoners have no rights to their reputation. We therefore have instructions to claim from you the sum of One Billion Malawi Kwacha being damages for libel on the footing of aggravated damage,” reads in part the file.

He added: “We find the publication of your article repugnant to journalistic ethics as Mr. Lutepo was not contacted for his side of the story.”

Lutepo also claimed that story is there to block him from appealing and to have his sentence reduced.

Meanwhile Times Media Group is yet to respond to Lutepo’s claims.
