As debate continues on whether the ‘naked protest’ championed by Mulanje South Member of Parliament Bon Kalindo over the sharp rise in the killings and abductions of people living with albinism will achieve its intended purpose or not, dates for the protest have been released.
The MP wants to pressurize government to effect death penalty which is already in the constitution of the republic of Malawi to those people who will be caught killing people with albinism in the country.
Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the planned demonstrations will be held on June 23, 2016 in the capital Lilongwe.
“The planned route is from Lilongwe Community Centre ground to Parliament Building where a petition will be read and thereafter demonstrators will peacefully demonstrate,” wrote Billy Mayaya, a human right activist.
According to Mayaya, everyone who is going to take part in the protest is expected to put on Red Underwear, Red Bras and Red Bikini Tops.
“Those who feel shy are free to wear anything red.
“We want our brothers and sisters living with albinism to join us as we demand that the State respects and protects their rights as citizens of Malawi,” said Mayaya.
Meanwhile many people have accused Kalindo for dramatizing the issue of albino killings in the country.
