There was drama in Parliament on Tuesday as Members of Parliament refused to contribute on the 2016/17 national budget forcing the second Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje to adjourn the house prematurely.

When Parliament resumed at 2pm Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Peoples Party (PP) MPs continued pressuring government to give them a K3 million loan each payable within a period of five years.

Government Chief Whip Dr. George Chaponda tried to persuade the MPs that Minister of Finance is discussing with responsible authorities over the issue but Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua trashed the claims.

Kalua said Chaponda is lying because there is no any meeting taking place.

After a lengthy disagreement between Opposition MPs and government Deputy Speaker suspended the house to cool down the tempers and find solution on the matter.

It took the intervention of the Leader of opposition Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for the deliberations to resume after the break.

Although this was the case, MPs from both side were not ready to make contribution on the matter forcing Deputy Speaker to again adjourn the house today afternoon.
