Area 24 residents had a sad awakening on Monday morning when a 35 years-old man was found hanging in his sitting room in Lilongwe.
Confirming the incident to the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Kingsley Dandaula identified the man as Moses Zimba from Kachenga village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kachenga in Balaka district.
“The deceased person was a motor vehicle mechanic who was staying alone in area 24. On Monday at around 5:00 in the morning his landlady went to his house and found Zimba hanging on the roof of the sitting room,” said Dandaula.
The matter was reported to Kawale Police who visited the scene and took the body to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) mortuary pending postmortem.
Coincidentally in March this year a 44 years-old man Saulos Phiri from Mnamba village in the area of Traditional Authority Pemba in Salima was found hanging in his bedroom after separating with his wife in the same area in Lilongwe.
Police are advising the general public that if there are issues that are affecting individuals or families it is best to seek advice from relevant channels such as faith leaders, marriage counsellors or from the Victim Support Unit of Police and that suicide is not the solution.
