Livingstonia Synod of the of Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has demanded an apology from President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for misleading Malawians that construction works for the road from Rumphi Boma via Njakwa up to old Livingstonia synod headquarters, saying that is untrue.
During his recent tour to the Northern Region, Mutharika was quoted repeatedly saying that he has fulfilled his promise following the commencement of the construction of the road from Rumphi.
A visit by FaceofMalawi reporter to the site revealed that nothing is happening regarding the construction of the road.
This has also been vindicated by Minister of Transport and Public works Malison Ndau who told Daily Times that the construction works await an approval from Treasury.
Reacting to the issue, Livingstonia Synod General Secretary, Reverend Levi Nyondo said it is sad that the president made the remarks on the podium that the work has commenced, while on the ground nothing has happened.
Nyondo said the Church will continue pressurizing the government to construct the road and not cheating Malawians as the President did in his announcement.
We shall never stop talking, unless the road is done,” said Nyondo.
Meanwhile Presidential Press Officer Mgeme Kalilani has quashed the call for an apology from Mutharika, insisting that the construction of the road has commenced.
