The government of Malawi has declared July 7, 2016 a public holiday in the country to allow Muslims to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.

This has been disclosed in a Press statement released from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development made available to FaceofMalawi.

“The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has advised that this year’s Eid Ul-Fitri celebrations, marking the end of the month of Ramadhan, will be observed on July 7 2016. As such, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development wishes to declare Thursday, July 7 2016 as Eid Ul-Fitri Public Holiday.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is, therefore, wishing all Muslims in Malawi and Diaspora Happy Eid Mubarak, and the general public a restful public holiday on Thursday, July 7 2016,” reads the statement in part.
