Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials on Sunday attempted to block the Party’s spokesperson Jessie Kabwila and Felix Jumbe from attending a rally in Salima attended by the Party’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Jumbe confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local radio station in the country, saying he was shocked with the move taken by the officials.

According to Jumbe, some MCP officials approached him together with Kabwila telling them that they were not welcomed at the Party.

Jumbe said the officials did not give any explanation as to why the two were not supposed to be at the rally.

He further told the station that the two ignored the officials call and attended the rally.

When asked as to whether he is going to take any action against the officials, Jumbe said he is not going to take any action, saying he is not shaken.

Jumbe is being accused of plotting to overthrow Chakwera by pushing for an early convention and is linked to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Recently MCP reshuffled its sitting plan in the National Assembly with Kabwila and Jumbe being the victims.

The two were shifted from frontline to backbenches and the changes sparked debate with many Malawians accusing MCP officials of ill-treating the two.
