Leader of the House in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda on Tuesday turned the National Assembly into a battle field when he called Mzimba West MP Harry Mkandawire to fight outside the house.

The whole issue started when Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly asked Mkandawire to feed the house with evidence on his alleged claims that that the government has ‘sold’ Lake Malawi to Mota Engil, a Portuguese contractor which he did.

Things went out of hand when Chaponda described the evidence, a newspaper report as “senseless “ , saying the evidence could not come from an honourable member.

While asking the Deputy Speaker to tell Chaponda to withdraw the statement, Mkandawire described the Minister as a criminal who should not be in the house.

Mkandawire said Chaponda is involved in various dubious deals.

Mkandawire’s remarks made Chaponda to lose his cool and invited Mkandawire for a fight outside the National Assembly.
