Two children have been burnt to death after the house they were left in caught fire.

According to James Mbewe,34 who is the father of the deceased, he identified the deceased as Bridget Mbewe,5 and Elizabeth Mbewe,2.

The incident occurred on 20 July,2016 at around 1600 hours in Chizula Village, Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu district.

What occurred on this day was that, the father who operates Kabaza within Kasungu town left home early in the morning leaving the children in the care of his wife.

At around 1600 hours the mother of the children (now deceased) left the children in the house and went to chat with friends in the nearby compound. Whilst there some houses including Mbewe’s house within the compound caught fire with the two children inside. Unfortunately, community members who were around didn’t know that the deceased were inside until when the mother came back and found out that the two were burnt to death.

The fire is suspected to have erupted from a nearby place where some small girls had prepared to roast sweet potatoes.

Postmortem conducted showed that their cause of death was due to severe burns.

The deceased hailed from Chizula village under Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu district.

Police is therefore appealing to the general public not to leave young children alone or un attended to in house and other places to avoid similar incidents.
