Former President Dr. Joyce Banda on Sunday joined various prominent figures in a memorial ceremony of late President John Atta Mills of Ghana.
Prof. Atta Mills was the first Ghanaian president to have died in office on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospitals.
The ceremony was led by Ghanian President John Mahama and other officials. As part of events to mark the day, several high profile dignitaries laid wreaths at the Asomdwe Park on Sunday, where Mills’ tomb is located.
The commemoration is under the auspices of University of Cape Coast, the John Evans Atta Mills Centre for Law and Governance, GIMPA and the Planning Committee under the auspices of the Government of Ghana.

There will also be the 4th John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture themed “Atta Mills the Servant Leader” will be delivered by Joyce Banda at the UCC Main Auditorium.
Late President Evans Atta Mill was described as “a peacemaker who never made a disparaging comments in public” despite intense criticisms and vilification from his political supporters and opponents alike.
