Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) both from Blantyre and Lilongwe campus have given President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika five days ultimatum to intervene on the recent University of Malawi (UNIMA) fee hike, saying the adjustment is unreasonable.

KCN students said this on Wednesday in a petition delivered to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika through Blantyre District Commissioner’s Office and Lilongwe District Commissioner’s Office.KCN protest 9

“Our economy has for long now been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Many Malawians are surviving perhaps the most turbulent economic times, with the lowest of incomes per individual families ever thought of,” reads in part the statement.

During the protest in Blantyre, KCN students could be heard crying while other could chant anti-UNIMA songs against the fee hike.KCN protest 10

Other students were seen carrying placards with all sorts of message and one of it being “University Education for all fees must fall”.

As this was not enough, in Lilongwe other students carried a coffin with placards all over it.

Meanwhile University Council still maintains its stand on the fee hike.
